“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” — Isaiah 26:3

SOUNDING
Isaiah speaks about peace in the middle of instability, not the absence of it. The surrounding chapters describe judgment, uncertainty, and the shaking of nations. Yet in the middle of that reality comes this promise of perfect peace.

The focus of the verse is not on circumstances but on the condition of the mind. A mind that is “stayed” on God is steady, anchored, and continually turned toward Him. This does not mean a person never feels fear or anxiety. It means the mind has learned where to return when those things rise.

Peace is often lost internally long before anything changes externally. Thoughts begin spiraling. Fear imagines outcomes that have not happened. Worry multiplies possibilities the heart was never meant to carry. Isaiah points to another way. Trust redirects the mind back toward God’s character, sovereignty, and faithfulness.

This kind of peace is not passive. It is practiced. It grows as attention is repeatedly brought back to God instead of endlessly circling fear. Trust steadies the mind, and a steady mind creates space for peace to take root.

Perfect peace does not mean a perfectly calm life. It means there is a deeper steadiness available even when life remains uncertain.

BEARING
