“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given… and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” — Isaiah 9:6
SOUNDING
Isaiah speaks these words into a time of darkness, instability, and uncertainty. Israel was surrounded by fear, political tension, and the threat of invasion. Yet in the middle of that setting, God gives a promise of hope through the coming Messiah.
Isaiah describes Him with four titles, each revealing something essential about His character.
Wonderful Counselor speaks of wisdom beyond human understanding. Jesus sees clearly what we often cannot. He guides with truth, insight, and perfect wisdom when confusion clouds the path.
Mighty God reveals strength beyond all opposition. There is no power, circumstance, or struggle greater than His authority. He is not fragile or limited. He is fully able to sustain, defend, and overcome.
Everlasting Father points to His faithful care. This title reflects protection, compassion, and steady presence. He does not abandon His people or grow weary in His love for them.
Prince of Peace describes the deep wholeness He brings. This peace is more than calm feelings. It is stability in the middle of chaos and security rooted in God’s presence even when circumstances remain difficult.
These titles are not abstract theology. They are meant to anchor the soul. Isaiah reminds us that who Jesus is directly speaks to what the human heart most deeply needs.
