“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me.’” — Isaiah 6:8

SOUNDING
Isaiah’s calling begins with an encounter with the holiness of God. He sees the Lord high and exalted, surrounded by worship, and the experience immediately exposes his own brokenness. Isaiah cries out that he is a man of unclean lips living among unclean people. Before anything else happens, he becomes deeply aware of his need.

Then grace enters the moment. A coal from the altar touches his lips, and Isaiah is told that his guilt is removed and his sin atoned for. Cleansing comes before calling. Mercy comes before mission.

Only after that does Isaiah hear God ask, “Whom shall I send?” Isaiah’s response is immediate. “Here am I. Send me.” His willingness does not rise from self-confidence or personal greatness. It rises from having encountered the mercy of God.

This reveals something important about calling. God is not primarily looking for polished people who feel fully prepared. He works through hearts that are available and surrendered. Grace transforms fear into willingness and humility into obedience.

Isaiah also reminds us that calling is not always dramatic or public. Sometimes God sends people into conversations, acts of service, encouragement, leadership, or quiet faithfulness in ordinary places. The important question is not how large the assignment appears, but whether the heart remains willing to say yes.
