“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” — Psalm 103:2

SOUNDING
David speaks directly to his own soul again, urging it to remember. He understands something important about the human heart. It forgets easily. Not usually in dramatic ways, but slowly, quietly, through distraction, pressure, and routine. The soul begins to focus on what is missing and loses sight of what God has already done.

So David intentionally calls himself back to remembrance. He begins listing the benefits of God: forgiveness, healing, redemption, steadfast love, compassion, satisfaction, and renewal. Each one is evidence of God’s ongoing care and faithfulness.

This is more than positive thinking. It is spiritual perspective. Remembering reshapes the heart. Gratitude changes how life is interpreted. It steadies the soul when discouragement tries to narrow vision. What God has done in the past becomes fuel for trust in the present.

David also understands that worship often begins with remembrance. The soul may not naturally move toward gratitude on difficult days, so he leads it there intentionally. He chooses to recall God’s goodness until his heart responds.

The same pattern still matters. A grateful heart does not ignore hardship, but it refuses to let hardship become the only story being told.
