“Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” — Psalm 55:22

SOUNDING
David writes this psalm in a season of deep personal distress. He is not dealing only with external threats but also with betrayal from someone close to him. The weight is both circumstantial and relational, and it presses heavily on him. In that context, he gives a clear instruction: cast your burden on the Lord.

The word “cast” is active. It requires a decision. Burdens tend to stay because they are held tightly. Worry circles the mind. Anxiety settles into the body. It becomes familiar, even if it is exhausting. David’s instruction moves in the opposite direction. It calls for release.

This does not mean ignoring responsibility or pretending the burden is not real. It means transferring the weight. It is a recognition that some things exceed your capacity. God invites that transfer, not as a last resort, but as a regular practice.

The promise that follows is steady. God will sustain you. He may not remove every difficulty immediately, but He will provide what is needed to remain steady. Strength comes not from carrying everything alone, but from learning to place what is heavy into His care.

This becomes an act of trust. Releasing what you are holding acknowledges that God is able to carry what you cannot.

BEARING
Releasing your burdens to God allows you to be sustained by His strength.

PRAYER
Lord, help me recognize what I am holding too tightly and give me the trust to place it in Your hands.

DROP IN
Take one specific concern today, name it clearly before God, and consciously release it to Him.
