“Let us rise up and build.” — Nehemiah 2:18

SOUNDING
Nehemiah arrives in Jerusalem and finds what he expected but hoped would not be as severe. The walls are broken down. The gates are burned. The city is exposed and vulnerable, and the people living there have grown used to the condition. Ruin has become normal.

Before he says anything publicly, Nehemiah walks the city at night. He takes time to see the damage for himself, to understand the weight of it, and to pray. When he finally speaks to the people, he does not deny the reality. He names it clearly. The city is in trouble. But he does not stop there. He tells them how God’s hand has been with him and how the king has given support. Then he calls them forward with a simple decision: rise and build.

That call matters. The walls are not restored in a moment. There is no quick solution. But something shifts when the people choose to stand up and begin. Restoration does not start with a finished structure. It starts with movement. It starts with people who are willing to step into the work instead of staying in the discouragement.

Nehemiah shows that rebuilding is often a process carried forward by ordinary people who decide to act. They do not have everything figured out. They simply begin. What looks overwhelming at a distance becomes possible one step at a time.
