“But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.” — 1 Samuel 30:6
SOUNDING
David returns to Ziklag expecting to find his people safe, but instead he finds the city burned and everyone taken captive. His men are overwhelmed with grief and begin to turn on him, even talking about killing him. In a single moment, David loses his home, his security, and the trust of the people closest to him. Everything that once supported him is gone.
There is no one left to encourage him in that moment. No one steps in to steady him. No one speaks life into him. So, David turns directly to God and strengthens himself in the Lord. He does not wait for circumstances to improve or for others to lift his spirit. He draws from a deeper source. He remembers who God is, what God has done, and what God has promised.
This is a turning point in the story. Before David seeks direction, before he makes a move, he anchors himself internally. His strength is not rebuilt through control or reaction, but through connection with God. This is what mature faith looks like. There are seasons when encouragement comes from others, but there are also seasons when you must learn to go to God yourself and be strengthened there.
