“May the LORD judge between you and me, and may the LORD avenge me against you, but my hand shall not be against you.” — 1 Samuel 24:12

SOUNDING
David is on the run, hunted by Saul, the very king he once served faithfully. Saul’s jealousy has turned into obsession, and now David is a fugitive, living in caves, constantly moving, constantly threatened. Then comes a moment that feels like destiny.

Saul unknowingly enters the very cave where David and his men are hiding. It is the perfect opportunity. No battle required. No witnesses needed. One strike, and everything changes. David’s men even whisper that this is God delivering Saul into his hands.

But David pauses. Instead of killing Saul, he cuts off a corner of Saul’s robe, and even that troubles his conscience. Why? Because David understands something deeper than the moment. Saul may be acting unjustly, but he is still the anointed king. David refuses to take into his own hands what belongs to God.

When David later confronts Saul from a distance, he doesn’t defend himself with force. He doesn’t retaliate. He simply says, “May the LORD judge between you and me.” David releases the need to control the outcome. He entrusts justice, vindication, and timing to God.

This is not a weakness; it is a restraint rooted in trust. David could have ended the conflict instantly, but he chose to let God handle what only God should handle. There are moments when the most powerful response is not action but surrender. Not because the situation doesn’t matter, but because you trust that God sees, God knows, and God will act.
