“Go in the strength you have and save Israel… Am I not sending you?” — Judges 6:14
SOUNDING
When God calls Gideon to deliver Israel from Midian, Gideon immediately pushes back. He points out his limitations. His clan is the weakest in the tribe of Manasseh. He considers himself the least in his family. In Gideon’s mind, the equation is simple: weak person, plus small clan, equals impossible mission.
God’s response shifts the entire conversation. He does not argue with Gideon’s assessment or demand that Gideon suddenly become stronger, more confident, or more qualified. Instead, God says, “Go in the strength you have… Am I not sending you?” The focus moves away from Gideon’s ability and toward God’s presence.
The strength Gideon needed was not hidden somewhere in the future. It was already enough because God was the one sending him. Throughout Scripture, God consistently calls people before they feel ready. Moses felt inadequate. Jeremiah felt too young. The disciples felt unprepared. Yet God moves through people who are willing to take the next step with the strength they already possess.
There is something freeing about how God works. He does not wait for perfect confidence or flawless preparation. He invites people to move forward with what they have today, trusting that His presence will supply what is missing along the way.
