“I have delivered Jericho into your hands.” — Joshua 6:2
SOUNDING
As Israel stands outside the fortified city of Jericho, the situation looks impossible. Jericho is heavily defended, its walls thick and towering, its gates shut tight against any threat. Israel has just crossed into the Promised Land and now faces a military obstacle that seems far beyond their capability. Yet before a single step is taken, God speaks to Joshua with striking certainty: “I have delivered Jericho into your hands.”
Notice the language. God does not say He will deliver the city. He speaks in the past tense. From God’s perspective, the outcome is already decided. The victory exists before Israel experiences it. What follows is not a strategy of human strength but an act of trust and obedience. The people will march around the city for days, blow trumpets, and watch as the walls fall—not because their actions caused the victory, but because they trusted the God who had already declared it.
This moment reveals something important about faith. God often speaks about His purposes before we see them unfold. The path between promise and fulfillment can feel long, uncertain, even strange. Yet obedience becomes the bridge between what God has declared and what we eventually witness. Israel’s role was not to manufacture victory but to walk faithfully in the direction God had already secured.
BEARING

Lord, give me the trust to move forward in obedience even when I cannot yet see the outcome.
