“I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live.” — Deuteronomy 30:19
SOUNDING
Moses speaks these words near the end of his life as Israel stands on the edge of the Promised Land. After forty years of wilderness wandering, the people are finally preparing to enter the land God promised their ancestors. Moses will not go with them, but before they cross the Jordan he summarizes everything they have learned. At its core, the life of faith comes down to a choice. Not once, but continually. Life or death. Blessing or curse. Trust or drift.
When God says “choose life,” He is not simply talking about survival. He is talking about alignment. Life means walking in God’s ways, trusting His wisdom, and ordering your life around His truth. Death, in Scripture, is rarely just physical. It is the slow erosion that happens when people detach from the source of life itself. The invitation Moses gives is not complicated, but it is decisive. Choose the path that keeps you connected to God.
Most of life is shaped not by dramatic turning points but by small daily decisions. Grace instead of resentment. Patience instead of anger. Truth instead of distortion. Purpose instead of distraction. Each decision moves the heart in a direction. Moses’ words remind Israel that life with God is not accidental. It is chosen again and again in the ordinary moments of the day.
