Scripture
“Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people will drink.” — Exodus 17:6

SOUNDING
Not long after receiving manna, Israel runs into another crisis. This time it is water…again. The wilderness exposes how fragile their trust still is. The people quarrel with Moses, convinced they have been brought out only to die of thirst. Moses brings the complaint to God, and God responds with a strange instruction: go to the rock at Horeb and strike it.

The rock represents the last place anyone would expect life. It is dry, immovable, and lifeless. Yet God tells Moses to strike it, and water pours out for the entire community. The miracle is not just the water. It is the reminder that God’s provision does not depend on the natural potential of the situation. What looks empty to you may already hold the answer when God is involved.

There are seasons when life feels like that rock. You stare at something that looks incapable of producing what you need. A relationship that feels stalled. A circumstance that refuses to move. A responsibility that feels too heavy. Yet the story reminds us that God often chooses the unlikely place for provision. If He leads you to the rock, He already knows the water is there.

BEARING
God’s provision is not limited by what a situation appears capable of producing.

PRAYER
LORD, help me trust that You can bring life even from places that seem dry and immovable.

DROP IN
Name one situation that feels barren or stuck and place it before God today.
