“But Moses said to the LORD, ‘Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent… I am slow of speech and of tongue.’” — Exodus 4:10

SOUNDING

Even after hearing God’s name and promise of presence, Moses continues to resist. He now shifts to personal limitation. Whether it was insecurity or a genuine speech struggle, Moses believes his weakness disqualifies him from confronting Pharaoh and leading a nation. He assumes that effective leadership requires flawless delivery and visible strength.

God’s response exposes the deeper issue. “Who has made man’s mouth?” The weakness Moses sees as an obstacle is not news to God. It is part of the design. God does not deny the limitation. He promises His presence within it. The focus moves from Moses’s ability to God’s sufficiency. Scripture consistently shows that God does not search for polished instruments. He shapes surrendered ones.

Weakness breeds dependence. If Moses felt completely capable, he might have leaned on himself. Instead, his hesitation drives him into partnership. God’s power is not displayed by the absence of limitation but by faithfulness within it. What Moses wants removed, God intends to redeem.
