“God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’” — Exodus 3:14

SOUNDING

When Moses asks God what name he should give to Israel, he is not asking out of curiosity. He knows that a name carries authority, character, and credibility. People will want to know who is sending him back to Egypt to confront Pharaoh. God answers with something that does not fit neatly into explanation: “I AM WHO I AM.” It is not a description built from comparison. It is not tied to lineage or geography. It is a declaration of self-existence.

This name anchors everything that follows. God is not becoming something. He is not developing into strength. He is not reacting to Pharaoh’s power or Israel’s weakness. He simply is. Uncaused. Unmoved. Uncontained by circumstance. Moses is being sent into one of the most powerful empires in the world, yet the authority behind him is not fragile or shifting. It is rooted in the One who does not change.

When God reveals Himself as “I AM,” He removes instability from the equation. Your life may fluctuate. Your clarity may thin. Your courage may waver. God does not. The steadiness of His character becomes the foundation under your obedience. You are not sent in your name. You are sent in His.

BEARING

Confidence grows when it rests on who God is, not on who you are.

PRAYER
Great I AM, root my trust in Your unchanging character.
