“And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.” — Genesis 45:5
SOUNDING
Joseph finally reveals himself to the brothers who betrayed him. The moment is charged with tension. Years earlier, they threw him into a pit, sold him into slavery, and convinced their father he was dead. Now they stand before him in Egypt, dependent on his mercy and certain that judgment is coming. Instead of retaliation, Joseph begins to reframe the entire story. He tells them not to be consumed by fear or self-condemnation, because beneath their actions God was at work. “God sent me ahead of you.”
Joseph does not deny the betrayal. He names it plainly. They sold him, and they intended harm, but he refuses to interpret his life only through the lens of hurt. He sees a deeper thread running beneath every chapter. The pit led to Egypt, which led to slavery, which led to influence, then to prison, which led to positioning. What looked like a ruined future became the very path that placed him where he could preserve life during famine. Joseph understands something most people never fully grasp: God’s sovereignty does not erase human choices, yet it is never limited by them. God can work through what He did not approve to accomplish what He has purposed.
This kind of vision only forms over time. It grows in people who allow God to interpret their story rather than locking themselves in resentment or regret. Joseph does not call evil good, but he refuses to call his life ruined. He sees that God has been weaving through every painful turn, positioning him for something larger than personal comfort. Some parts of your story may still feel unresolved or unfair, but God is not finished with them. What looks like loss may become placement. What feels like a detour may become direction. When God is involved, no season is wasted and no chapter stands alone.
