“The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” — Genesis 2:15
SOUNDING
Before sin, stress, or frustration ever showed up in the story, God gave humanity work and it was good. Eden wasn’t a vacation spot; it was a place of purpose. God put Adam in the garden not to grind or hustle but to partner with Him, to shape and cultivate something meaningful. Work was never meant to measure Adam’s worth; it was meant to express his relationship with God. Before brokenness complicated everything, work was a sacred act.
Our knee-jerk reaction is to confuse purpose with pressure. We treat our values as if they rise or fall with productivity, titles, rank, or results. But the creation story reminds us that purpose existed long before performance anxiety. Your worth isn’t tied to your performance, résumé, or bank account. Your calling isn’t defined by your credentials or qualifications. God’s design for you is partnership, showing up with Him in the place He’s planted you, whether that’s a demanding job, a messy home, a season of transition, or a quiet corner of influence. Purpose isn’t about proving something; it’s about walking with God in your everyday life.
